Whose Pipe Was it?
At Barnsley, on Wednesday, Cyril Hayes, Dataller, Darfield, was summoned by the Houghton Main Colliery Company for a breach of the coal Mines Act by taking a tobacco pipe into the pit.
Captain CM Clegg explained that when defendant was third the fire was found in his best pop.
Formal evidence having been given by the searcher, defendant stated that he was not aware that the pipe was in his pocket. He was not a pipe smoker, and the piping question belonged to his father, and must have been accidentally put in his pocket.
Defendant was ordered to pay the costs, the Chairman remarking that the pipe appeared to have got there quite accidentally.
