Mr. John Kilner Bateson, for forty-three years manager of the Glassworks, Conisboro’, died.

Thurnscoe Urban District Council accepted with thanks a munificent offer from the Rev. T. T. Taylor of £350 gift of land for road improvement.
Mr. J. H. Watson returned unopposed for the Swinton Division of the West Riding County Council.
Archbishop of York sends letter of congratulation to Mrs. Kaye on her resignation from the headmistress-ship of the Old Denaby Church of England Schools.
Amazing story of a plot to rob the Hull and Barnsley Railway Co. was revealed when the stationmaster of Moorhouse and a former porter were charged with stealing £9 16s., and sent to prison.
Mr. W. Werde-Adam opened two new schools at South Elmsall, March 1st.
March
At the March meeting of the Wath Council, it was stated that 300 more houses were required in the town, and the Council declared themselves in favour of a municipal housing scheme.
Intending resignation of Mr. Henry Thompson as secretary for the Mexboro’ Montagu Hospital was announced, March 1st.
Announced that the Rev. C. P. Mellor, curate of Conisboro’, had accepted the living of Lissington, Lincs.
Mr. J. W. Hattersley resigned secretaryship of the Mexboro’ Secondary School Governors.
Sanction given to the borrowing of £1,162 for the making of a cemetery at Darfield, and £560 for the purchase of the land.
Walter Sykes, who was arrested at Mexboro’ in connection with the Kimberworth murder, was sentenced to death at Leeds Assizes, March 10th.
New Parochial Hall at Barnburgh, erected at a cost of £1,700, and which accommodates 200 persons, was opened on Easter Monday by the Hon. Mrs. H. Lindley Wood.
Earl Fitzwilliam gives a site and £100 towards the cost of Church Institute and Parochial Hall for Brampton Bierlow.
Interesting slander action heard at Leeds Assizes, in which Joseph Ryan, a Goldthorpe checkweighman, obtained £50 damages against two fellow workmen.
Mexboro’ Council decide to appoint a Sanitary Inspector at a salary of £100 per annum.
Foundation stones of the Mexboro’ Salvation Army Citadel, erected at a cost of £1,744, laid March 21st.
Mrs. G. T. Nicholson, of Rock House, Conisboro’, was appointed Vicar’s Warden at the Conisboro’ vestry meeting.
Councillor Edwin Crookes, of Wombwell, died March 31st, 1913.
April
The elections at Mexboro’ resulted in the dismissal of Messrs. J. Clayton and J. E. Cliff, and the election of Thomas Allen and David Humphries, April 5th.
At Conisboro’ six of the old members were re-elected, and Labour obtained eight of the thirteen seats.
At the Swinton elections, Messrs. C. W. H. Peat and F. R. Oliver gained the seats vacated by retirement of Dr. Rain and Mr. Bower. Three retiring members were defeated at Wath, and John Godber, Arthur Bramham, and Thomas Lomas elected.

Rev. W. R. Hartley, Rector of Barnburgh, and Mrs. Hartley celebrated their silver wedding, April 25th.
Carnegie Hero Trust grant £300 for distribution among those who took part in the rescue work at the Cadeby Colliery disaster.

Mr. Albert Wilde, Swinton, appointed Grand Master of the Order of Druids.
Foundation stones of new Free Christian Church, Mexboro’, laid May 22nd.
Mr. J. Buckingham Pope, chairman of the directors of the Denaby and Cadeby Collieries Company, Ltd., died May 12th.
In the Home Office report on the Cadeby disaster, Mr. R. A. S. Redmayne, Chief Inspector of Mines, deprecated the reckless bravery which contributed to the heavy loss of life in the second explosion.
Announced that Messrs. H. Hulley, E. Fisher, E. E. Chambers, H. Williamson, and W. Prince, and Sergeant Winch, were to receive Edward Medals for heroism displayed in connection with the Cadeby disaster.
June
Hearing of the Mexboro’ and Swinton Tramway Company’s Railless Traction Bill commenced before House of Commons Committee, June 3rd.
Foundation stone of Wombwell Church Tower laid Monday, June 30th.
A verdict for the defendants, with costs, was returned in the case of the Cunard Steamship Co. v. the Denaby and Cadeby Collieries, Ltd. The claim was for damages for breach of a contract which was suspended owing to the coal strike.
