Urban District Councils of Wath, Wombwell, Bolton, and Thurnscoe decide to make application to the Light Railway Commissioners for an Order authorising the construction and working of light railways within the County Borough of Barnsley, the Urban Districts of Ardsley, Worsboro’, Wombwell, Wath-upon-Dearne, Bolton-upon-Dearne, and Thurnscoe, and the parishes of Adwick-on-Dearne and Brampton Bierlow, November 15th.

Mexboro’ and District Water Co. give notice of their application to Parliament to obtain permission for further development of their works, November 15th.

First sod of Earl Fitzwilliam’s new colliery at Rawmarsh turned by Viscount Milton, November 13th.

Murder and suicide at West Melton. George Roebuck (18), a miner, of Hoober Cottages, killed Laura Gibson, a married woman, with whom he had been cohabiting some time. The wounds were inflicted with a razor. Search was made for Roebuck, and his body was recovered from the canal shortly after the discovery of the murder, November 18th.

Club brawl at South Kirkby, which resulted in the death of Joseph Finch (38), a miner. At the subsequent law proceedings, Vincent Straw, who was arrested in connection with the affair, was bound over, the jury being of opinion that great provocation had been given (November 3rd).

New halt opened on the Dearne Valley Railway at Pastures Bridge, Mexboro’, December 1st.
