Accident at Houghton Main Colliery
A rather serious accident occurred at the above colliery on Monday last.
About 2 o’clock in the afternoon a carpenter named Harry Hanson was engaged along with a number of others in getting an elevator casing, weighing nearly a ton, into position, in connection with the new screening and washing plant now in course correction, when from some cause the casing suddenly overbalanced and pinned Hanson against a wall.
The unfortunate man was extricated as quickly as possible and conveyed to his home at little Houghton.
Dr Castle was summoned, and pronounced him to be suffering from me fractured collarbone and crushed abdomen.
Upon enquiry we learn that Hanson is progressing as favourably as can be expected
