Colin Pepper
Mr C. Dark, an old Swintonian, sends us an interesting letter from Peckham about a Great Houghton man, Colin Pepper, who will be remembered by many football players and followers in this district.
Mr. Dark writes: —
“I often played against Colin Pepper and I new him when he played for Thurnscoe Park. I had the good fortune to meet him in London, and was pleased to learn he is still playing. From information I have gleaned, he has assisted many other clubs, namely: hie own village club ,Houghton United, Middlecliff Rovers, Darfield Bridge, and Wombwell.
He also had trials with Sheffield United and Bradford P.A., but was very unfortunate with both clubs, as he got injured. A few weeks ago he was on trial with Cambridge Town at inside-left, and played an excellent game. He is now fixed up with Carshalton Athletic in the London Premier League.
In his first match against Beddington in an F.A. Amateur Cup tie he played a brilliant game at centre-half, and scored a fine goal. Last Saturday at Chelmsford he again played a fine game. To-morrow he will turn out against Metropolitan Police in the second round of the F.A. Amateur Cup competition. He has turned down an offer from Wimbledon, but if he keeps up his form he will not stay long with Carshalton. Many besides myself will wish him luck.”
Pepper is 25 years old.
