Engaged to Well-Known Rugby Player

The engagement is announced oF Miss Phyllis Francis, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Francis, the Cottage, Little Houghton, and Mr Edgar Arthur Underwood, the son of Mr P Underwood, Queen’s Terrace Otley.

Miss Francis is a member of Wath Golf club, Little Houghton tennis club and is well known as an elocutionist.

Her father is the secretary of the Houghton Main Colliery Limited, chairman of the Little Houghton parish council since 1923 and a member of the Hemsworth rural Council.

Mr Underwood, who is in the banking business, plays Rugby football for Otley, who won the Yorkshire Cup during the past two seasons.

He played rugby for provincial bankers against London bankers weeks ago
