61 Years a Miner
Darfield Couples Golden Wedding
Mr and Mrs James Longden of 61 School Street, Darfield have just celebrated their golden wedding.
They were married at the parish church of All Saints Darfield in 1877 and have never lived outside the shadow of that building.
They have had a family of three sons and five daughters and there are 17 grandchildren. Mr Longden has been employed in the mines for 61 years, and would probably have been working now but for the fact that he nearly lost his life in a pit accident at Houghton Main three years ago.
He was then employed as an underground official.
Both Mr and Mrs Longden enjoy excellent health. They are greatly esteemed in the village of Darfield.
