June 1917

Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Thursday 28 June 1917

At Barnsley, yesterday, an adjourned inquest was held relative to the death of John Edward Crossley (15), pit boy, of Snape Hill, Darfield, who died at the Beckett Hospital from injuries received whilst working at the Houghton Main Colliery, where he was knocked down by a train of corves.

The jury returned a verdict of “ Accidental death,” and found that the injury was sustained while deceased was endeavouring to remove scotch from runaway switch which had been improperly placed there by some person.
