Little Houghton Parish Council – Ings Lane

February 1909

Barnsley Chronicle February 20, 1909

Little Houghton Parish Council

A meeting of this Council was held in the Houghton Main Colliery offices when there were present Mr C Liddell (chairman), J M Gardner, G Walker, W Wood and D Roberts, with the Clerk, Mr J Holmes.

A plan and estimate for converting Ings Lane into a public carriage road were duly considered and decided to recommend same for the approval of the district council.

A letter was read for the Darfield Urban District Council regarding the lighting of Ings Lane, but it was decided not to do anything further in this matter into the question of converting it into a carriage road had been decided.

In the meantime the Clerk was instructed to ascertain the cost of lighting by various different methods, and report to the next meeting.

The conversion of Ings Lane (better known as the bridal path) into a carriage road is a matter which had been under consideration between the township of Houghton Parva and the Darfield Urban District for a number of years.

It now rests with the Darfield Council to say whether they are prepared to undertake the necessary alterations in the remaining portion of the bridal pass, which is in their area.
