Local Band’s Success at Cleethorpes

The annual brass band contest, held on Cleethorpes Pier last Saturday, proved highly popular, but it resolved itself into a series of triumphs for the Houghton Main Colliery Band and its conductor, Mr G.M.Hitchen.

Both in the March contest (when they played Mephistopheles*), and in the selection contest (Rossini Works), they won the first prize, and also gained medals for the best horn, best euphoria, and best trio of trombones. Lincoln Malleable Ironworks Band was second in both competitions.
