Escorted Canadians

John George Grafton, son of Mr. G. Gratton and the late Mrs. Gratton, of Cross Street, Great Houghton, left Houghton Main Colliery about a year ago to join the Navy.

He was in the escort which brought back the first contingent of Canadian soldiers, whom Gratton describes as an exceptionally fine set of fellows.

Grafton had a short leave at Christmas, which he enjoyed among his old pals.
