Wounded In France
Roland Birch, of Briers Buildings, Great Houghton, is the first Great Houghton soldier to be wounded in France since the invasion commenced.
His wife received intimation that he was suffering from splinter wounds, and had been removed to a hospital in England. She visited him last week, and on Monday his father went to see him.
He went out to France at the opening of the second front, and was wounded about a fortnight later. Birch has served in Iceland and returned to England in 1942.
Prior to enlistment he worked at Dearne Valley Colliery. He has three young children.
