Gunner’s Death

News has reached the parents of Gnr. Alfred Bladen (24), of 7. School Street, Great Houghton, that their son has been killed.

Gnr. Bladen joined an anti-tank regiment just before the war broke out.

Prior to that he worked at the Houghton Main Colliery.

Early this year he was on his way abroad, when it was reported that the ship in which he was travelling had been torpedoed.

At that time his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bladen, received news from the War Office that he was missing, Official news of his death has now been received. He had many friends in the district.
