With Eighth Army
Sapper Horace Hargreaves (22), son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hargreaves, High Street, Great Houghton, is in the R.E. with the Eighth Army. Joining up two years ago he went a 3,000 miles journey to Iraq in one of the longest convoy runs ever attempted. He has lost several pals in the Tunisian fray, and says he never experienced anything like the scenes witnessed there. Horace has had some adventurous travels.
Before joining the Forces he worked on the pumps at Dearne Valley Colliery. Horace gets his “South Yorkshire Times” regularly. He will have a pleasant surprise when he learns that his only sister, Olive, was selected Queen for the Great Houghton Wings for Victory Week.
18, joined the R.A.C. just before Christmas, and is a trooper. He is serving in this country. Both were formerly employed as assistants at the Wath branch of the Barnsley British Co-operative Society Butchering Department, and received their education at the Park Road School.
