Private Walter Shaw
(York & Lancs)
Great Houghton – Wounded
Private Walter Shaw, of the Barnsley battalion, son of Mrs Shaw, Church Terrace, Great Houghton, very narrowly escaped death in recent fighting.
Whilst advancing with the line a shell burst quite close by and covered him with earth, under which he was imprisoned for 45 minutes. He was also slightly caught with shrapnel, but has now rejoined his comrades and apparently is no worse for the experience.
