Honours for Houghton Main Soldier.

Temporary Second-Lieutenant William Clifford Watkin, R.E., whose home is at Darfield, has been awarded the Military Cross.

Prior to the war Lieutenant Watkin was assistant manager at Houghton Main Colliery. His father is manager of Dearne Valley Colliery.

The gallant officer joined the R.A.M.C. as private,and was granted a commission in France, being posted to the Royal Engineers. He was wounded on June 30th last
