Houghton Lads
Three sons of Mr. and Mrs. C. McArdle of Coronation Street, Darfield, are serving in H.M. Forces. Formerly they lived at Great Houghton, and all attended Houghton Council School.
Irving McArdle (27) is a flight mechanic in the R.A.F. Prior to enlistment, he was a timekeeper at Houghton Main Colliery.
Roland McArdle (22) has also joined the R.A.F. as a fight mechanic. He is stationed on the coast and enjoys life. He was formerly a member of Darfield Tennis Club and the Dramatic Club. He also worked at Houghton Main Colliery as an electrician’s assistant.
Stanley McArdle (20), the youngest of four brothers and three sisters, is attached to the R.A. and Is stationed at a seaside resort. Before being called up he sustained a fractured foot at Houghton Colliery. He received treatment for this in the Army and it is now almost normal again. He feels fit and says the food is very good.
