Company Sergeant Major G. Wardle,( picture, left) son of Mr. and Mrs. Wardle, of Middlecliffe, Great Houghton, who enlisted on September 1st, 1914, in the York and Lanes.

After serving in France since December, 1915, has been awarded the D. C.M. for conspicuous gallantry between the 23rd and 30th March, 1918.

Prior to enlistment C.S.M. Wardle was employed at Houghton Main.

His brother, Private. Harry Wardle, (picture right) who enlisted in August, 1914, has been wounded for a third time, and is in the Wentworth Hospital, Wakefield.

Prior to enlistment he was also employed at Houghton Main.
