Will Be On The Air

A sixteen-year-old Thurnscoe girl Miss Betty G. Brooke, of 15: Hanover Street, Thurnscoe East, and her partner, Colin Leech (14) of Rotherham Road, Houghton have1 been invited to take part in a “Young Artists” programme in the B.B.C.’s “Children’s Hour” on Monday at 5 p.m.

Betty and Colin have been singing for three and a half years, and both have won many prizes and awards. Colin’s total is now 28, while Betty’s tally is 18. These include first prizes and silver medals at Elsecar and first prizes and bronze medals at Rothwell this year for Colin, while Betty has this year been successful in obtaining a first at Rothwell and a bronze medal In the girls’ solo at Rothwell. She also won a certificate of merit at Cleethorpes in the junior soprano class.

As a duet, their best piece is “O Lovely Peace,” by Handel, and when they have sung it in competitions they have never yet failed to take first place. Betty is also a useful pianist, though most of her work at music 1 festivals has been singing.
