Dennis Froggatt, 20 year old Great Houghton cyclist, who has been appointed secretary of the racing section of Wombwell Wheelers Champion and recently won the coveted Selby Trophy, setting up a racing record by covering 60 miles in two hours 50 mins. 41 secs, wrestling the record from Doug. Butcher. Who in previous year did the 60 miles in two hours 51 mins. 54 secs.

a young Houghton Main miner, Dennis thinks he is fortunate to work in a regular night shift, because it gives him time in the day to enjoy his favourite hobby. Cycling.

He took up club cycling about four seasons ago, after joining Wombwell Wheelers, and starting racing in the following season. He was quickly in the news. In a 10 miles time trial he was fed man home in his face racing season. In the first 25 miles race promoted by the Wheelers he gained second place. Last season in the throne Paragon open “25” he was the first handicap man home, doing the run in one hour three mins. And in the Sheffield Phoenix open he was second handicap man home.

He hopes to win the Dyson trophy in a competition to be promoted by the Wheelers in honour of their late founder president, Mr L Dyson.

To celebrate his winning of the Selby trophy he invited him his racing section colleagues (nearly 30 of them), his mother had made a huge pie, and the crowd enjoyed a hot supper and Frank Dennis is health from his newly Acquired trophy.

Footnote.- Denis is particularly proud of his Paris model cycle, on which he rides, which like most expert cyclists, he has assembled himself.
