Houghton Main Sinking

Good progress is being made with the sinking of an additional shaft to the Parkgate seam of coal at Houghton Main Colliery near Barnsley.

It is computed that when it is completed extra facilities thus provide will enable the output to be increased by 50%.

At the point where the sinking penetrates the coal measures the Parkgate seam lies at a depth of 800 yards.

Where water bearing strata is encountered, the sedimentation processes been utilised to make the sinking possible.

Brig Gen Sir J.F.Laycock, D.S.O. is chairman of the company; and the paid-up capital is £430,000.
