Inquest on Little Houghton Man Adjourned

The Doncaster District Coroner, Mr. W. H. Carlile come opened and adjourned an inquest at Mexborough yesterday (Thursday) and Kenneth Wilkinson (37) a colliery deputy of 14 Lesmond Crescent, Little Houghton who died in Mexborough Montagu hospital on Tuesday after being involved in an accident on the previous day.

Mrs. Rose Wilkinson, the widow, told the Coroner her husband, a deputy at Highgate Colliery, Goldthorpe, left home on Monday on his auto-cycle at about 1.15 p.m. to go to work.

About mid-night she was told by the police about what had occurred and she went to the Montagu hospital and stayed there all night with her husband who was unconscious. At about 6 a.m. on Tuesday she was told that he had died without regaining consciousness.

The Coroner said he would adjourn the inquest so that further investigations could be made.

The accident occurred on the Barnsley—Doncaster road between Darfield and Goldthorpe..

Mr. Wilkinson had been married 12 years and leaves a son, Allan (8) and a daughter Carole(4)

He’ was a member of Darfield District Gardening Society and of Middlecliffe Working men’s club.

His death came as a double blow to his father, Mr Sam Wilkinson, 1 Mary St, Little Houghton, as in the previous week there was another bereavement in the family.

Cremation will take place at Sheffield on Monday
