The Swinton Urban Council will hold no meeting in August.

The Mexborough Lawn Tennis Association cup finals will be played at Denaby Main on Saturday.

Over a thousand local “Buffaloes” attended surface at the Swinton Parish Church on Sunday afternoon.

Wilfred Rhodes and Roy Kilner, the Yorkshire cricketers, are going to India to fulfil a winter engagement.

A summer fête on Thursday afternoon in the Swinton Vicarage Grounds was attended with a considerable degree of success.

70 Houghton miners were charged at Barnsley, on Wednesday with absenting themselves from work, and the cases were adjourned for three weeks.

Don’t forget the Mexborough Agricultural Show next Thursday. The society have added  St Swithin to the committee and are now in a position to promise a fine day.

Mr Arthur Morris, of Swinton who sold 80,000 copies of a ballad on Pit ponies, is now publishing a song entitled “The Miner,” copies of which have been accepted by the King, the Prince of Wales, Queen Alexandra, and Princess Mary.

The Darfield Sub Area Committee of the miners Welfare Fund are asking landscape gardeners and nurserymen to submit schemes for the laying out of public gardens, tennis court, bowling greens and other provisions in connection with the local scheme.

There was a unique incident at Conisbrough last Sunday. The Denaby Main Catholics, headed by Father Leteux, went in procession to the parish church, and knelt in silent worship there. They were received by the Vicar of Conisbrough, will explain to them something of the history of the architecture of the building.

A correspondent writes: Was it not a wee bit ungracious to allow Mr J.W Hattersley, who has been clerk to the Mexborough Urban Council, to retire from the office without even so much as a vote of thanks and appreciation accorded to him. Perhaps the proceeding at the last council meeting upset calculation in many ways, and this obvious duty was admitted.
