Obituary  – Clarkson.

One of the biggest funerals seen at Great Houghton took place at Great Houghton last Thursday when Mr William Clarkson, a prominent property owner and well-known tradesmen, was buried at Darfield. People lined the streets as the cottage left the house at Sandhill many friends had congregated at Darfield Cemetery.

Mr William Clarkson was 71 years of age died last week in Sheffield Royal Hospital.

For 40 years he had kept an off-licence business at Sandhill. He was the primary organiser of the Great Houghton Penny in the pound Scheme which came into existence some eleven years ago. For over 26 years he was a member of the committee of the Off-Licence Protection Association at Barnsley. He had assisted at Great Houghton Horticultural show and had judged exhibits on several occasions. The funeral service was conducted by Mr. Wm. Nicholson of Great Houghton
