Private Richard Fisher, Middlecliffe, who eniisted in April this year and went to the Front on Sept. 26, was killed in action on October 6th. Prior to enlistment he was employed at Houghton Main. The following letter has been received from Sec.-Lieut. David Smith:
“It is with very deep regret that I write to inform you of the death in action of your husband. Although he had only just. Joined the Company, he had immediately become popular with all his comrades and had he been pared to us he Ward and being on the list for promotion.
In the great grief that must be yours it might be some consolation to you to know that he did not suffer long, death been instantaneous, also that the Supreme sacrifice was made for the greater cause of all that that of his country.
He met his death is only a hero could.”
