Wedding – Bolton & Jones

At Great Houghton Methodist Chapel on Saturday, the marriage took place of Miss Myra Bolton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bolton, 71, Pleasant Avenue, Great Houghton, and Pte., William Jones, R.A.M.C., youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Jones, Pugh Road, Bradley, Staffs.

The service was choral. Mr A. Jackson, of Leeds, sang “I’ll Walk Beside You,” Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of ivory satin in Victorian style, cut to form a train. Her long net veil, carried by three small attendants, was embroidered with lilies, and was surmounted with a cluster of love birds. She carried red roses.

Nine bridesmaids were in attendance. They were Misses Nancy Bolton, Renee Watkins and Jean Randerson, wearing long apple green net dresses over taffeta, with clusters of coloured tulips appliqued and matching coronets of flowers and shoulder veils: Misses Jean Brown, Grace Wigley and Jean Lettin in similar dresses in peach taffeta with overdresses of net, and peach coloured shoulder veils and coronets of flowers, and all wearing gold brooches, presents from the brother of the bridegroom.

Smaller attendants were R. Jacobs, G.Huddart and S. Bolton, who wore white satin crinoline dresses with bows of pale pink and green silk, and satin bonnets. They carried primroses. W. Huddart was page boy in a satin suit in Tudor style, and carrying a white satin cushion with coloured satin bows.

Mr. H. Bolton was best man and Mr. A. Shelton groomsman. Mr. P. Sharpe was usher. At the chapel door Mrs. Green presented the bride with a lucky wooden spoon.

Among the gifts was a case of fruit spoons from the Methodist Sunday School, where the bride was at one time a Sunday school teacher.
