August 1932

South Yorkshire Times, Friday, August 26, 1932

Jacob-Brooke.

The wedding took place at Thurnscoe on Saturday, the Rev. J. M, Edwards officiating of Miss Marjorie Brooke, daughter of Mr. and Mr. H. Brooke, 9, Garden Street. Thurnscoe and Mr. Wilfred Jacob, son of Mrs. R. and the late Mr. R. Jacob, Great Houghton.

The bride was on the staff of the Houghton School and an active member of the Thurnscoe Dramatic Society, a playing member of the Hickleton Tennis Club and a prominent church worker. She was given away by her father and wore embossed georgette, white satin shoes and head dress of embroidered tulle surmounted by bronze blossom. A rope of pearls, the gift of the bridegroom, and a sheaf of Madonna lilies, completed a pretty ensemble.

She was attended by Misses Muriel Brooke and Dorothy Martin, who wore green floral georgette with coatees, black picture hats, and necklets of green crystal and gold, the gifts of the bridegroom; and carried pink carnations. The best man was Mr. F. Bladen and the groomsman Mr. N. Wroe.

The bride’s mother received about 50 guests at the reception in a dress of navy blue lace and crepe de chine. The couple left for Llandudno for the honeymoon, the bride travelling in blue marocain with navy blue coat and bat.

Mrs. T. Hardwick played the “Wedding March” (Lohengrin), as the couple entered the church, and Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” as they left. Among numerous presents was one from the Houghton School staff and scholars, a net of fish cutlery and pastry forks.
